The primary function of wheel-well fillers such as the Tyrelok™ Safety band is to close the well of the single piece tubeless tyre wheel rim. With the well closed the tyre cannot leave the wheel rim in the event of any form of tyre failure, thereby ensuring that the driver does not lose control of the vehicle. The essential purpose inherent to the Tyrelok™ Safety band is that it is designed primarily to prevent death and injury to people and damage to vehicles and assets, rather than saving tyres.

Background

In 1998, BMA Marketing, in conjunction with the Aluminium Federation of Southern Africa (AFSA) developed Namathela Tyrelok™, the world’s first Aluminium safety band.

Namathela Tyrelok™ is rust-proof, lightweight and has a unique securing spring clip. 

This clip has three very distinct advantages:

• The semi-sinusoidal clip has 11 mm of elasticity and keeps the safety band very tight in the wheel well under all conditions.
• The clip has also been designed to make the fitting and removal of the bands quick and easy.
• In the circumstance where a tyre fails in a remote area and there is no proper spanner or fitment unit available, the driver can remove the Tyrelok™ with something as simple as a screw driver.
