A fully loaded taxi travelling at 100 km/h, suddenly bursts a tyre, but the taxi drives on without a problem. This ‘miracle’ took place at the Checkers taxi rank in Roodepoort last week.

The device responsible for the passengers safety is Namathela Tyrelok – this device prevents one from losing control of the vehicle if the tyre bursts and it was introduced to the Dorljota Taxi Organization in a live demonstration.

PARC (People Against Road Carnage) had organized the demonstration for Dorljota after being so impressed by the ‘miracle’ device on a previous occasion.

‘Our main aim is to ensure people’s safety and to save lives,’ said Mrs. Agnes Elliot Chairman of PARC. The tyre band manufactured by BMA Marketing is an aluminium band that fills the wheel well. Without tyre bands, the flat tyre would slip into the wheel well and this is what causes the driver to lose control of the vehicle.

But this is not the only advantage of a tyre band.  ‘You can still drive between 20 and 25 kms on a flat tyre if you are in an unsafe area,” says Mrs. Carol Slabolepszy Sales Manager of BMA Marketing.

The demonstration was a huge success leaving the skeptics impressed and excited, particularly after the taxi’s tyre burst (with the help of an explosive device)  and the taxi continued to drive without any problems.

Mr. Louis Komane, a taxi owner present at the demonstration, agreed that this device could definitely save many lives.

‘It’s good thing, especially for taxis and school buses,’ said Mrs. Ursula Greyling, a member of the PARC Committee.
