The bands are fixed into place on the wheel rim with the unique semi-sinusoidal clip and a M5 stainless steel set screw with Nylock nut.
The spring clip is manufactured from AA6082 alloy temper T-6 technical grade, and is secured into position in the wheel well with a firm blow forcing the open end over the pin.
The M5 Nylock nut is fixed into position on the milled step of the pin with a stainless steel clip thereby enabling fitment with one spanner. The socket spanner, which is supplied, is 450mm long with a 50mm lever allowing for adequate torque to tighten the bands onto the wheel rim. (6 Newton metres).
In severe conditions it may be advisable to use ‘Locktite” for additional safety.
When removing the safety band to change or repair the tyre, the clip SHOULD NOT be prised loose from the pin before easing the tension on the band by loosening the M5 set screw first.
Wheel safety bands can be fitted into the wheel well (drop centre) of a single piece wheel rim.
Below please find the fitting/removal procedure and the tooling required to complete this task.
